Dear Tony,
Funny you should ask...Francesca Romana is the subject of a current PhD
dissertation by Cynthia Troupa, a student of Bill Kent's at Monash University
(Melbourne, Australia) & a very talented feminist scholar, so we'll just have
to wait a few more years!

I believe that there may be a straighforward answer to Gary Dickson's query
about a possible Jubilee in 1423. The "great historian", Ludwig von
Pastor did not get it wrong. It was his English translator and
publisher.
The mistake is corrected in the Italian edition, edited Angelo Mercati
(Rome,1958), based on the last German edition (vol.I,p.241), where it is
amended to 1425.
How wonderfully rewarding it is to consult Pastor on all matters
to learn so much from the footnotes and the material around what one is
looking for: in this case, a witchcraft case in Rome 1424; the visit of
S.Bernardino to the city in 1427; and the remarkable section on the female
Roman saint (who featured in the famous medieval-religion listings
earlier in the year),S.Francesca Romana ? Why has no feminist historian
written about her, to my knowledge ?
Tony Antonovics.
