In agreement with our gastroenterologists the comment that we append to
all requests for FOB is:
Please note that the testing of faecal occult blood has been
discontinued after the introduction of the bowel cancer screening
programme for asymptomatic patients.
Symptomatic patients should be investigated according to the NICE
guideline CG027. For information and links visit the MYT Pathology

Sounds as if you're doing well on something we should all be doing.
Assuming that's a comment from a GP and that the putative patient has GI
symptoms and is in England I suggest that the response recommends
referral to a gastroenterologist under the two-week possible cancer
pathway.
But that recommendation doesn't have to come from Laboratory Medicine:
it could be from a working group led by GPs...
