MODERNISATION AND LIBRARIES: partnerships with public and private sectors
Stamford, Tuesday 11 June 2002
A CPI Library and Information Policy Seminar
The aims are to look critically at some of the current and innovative
examples of partnerships in which public libraries become involved as they
face up to the modernisation agenda; and to probe some of the partnership
issues that arise in the planning, ownership, financing, management and
delivery of modern services to the user.
Major issues covered in speakers¹ contributions will include the role of
partnership in achieving modernisation, the Private Finance Initiative,
joint ventures with the business and private sectors, e-government and the
opportunities for joined-up networks, and the impact of modernisation as
evidenced by Annual Library Plans.
The seminar will be of interest to public library and other local government
managers, regional and Government bodies, library co-operatives,
partnerships and consortia, private sector partners, library schools, and
independent consultants. Opportunities for discussion and debate are built
in throughout the day.
