Hello,
We are inviting organisations to submit activities to be included in one or more of the activity packs for British Science Week 2021 for release in January 2021. There are three activity packs released online each year in the lead up to British Science Week, which takes place from 5-14 March in 2021. The activities are aimed at: ages 3-5 (Early Years), ages 5-11 (Primary) and ages 11-14 (Secondary).
The packs are available to download for free by educators across the UK and beyond including teachers, out of school group leaders, home educators, childcare providers, parents and community group leaders. In 2020 we had over 100,000 downloads of the activity packs. The packs stay online all year and continue to be available in the following year.
This is a valuable opportunity for organisations to promote resources and connect with new audiences. There is a supporter fee payable to the British Science Association for each of the three packs which helps to support its development and the wider British Science Week campaign. Please get in touch to learn more about the options available.
The theme for 2021 is ‘Innovating for the future’.
We encourage you to be creative in your interpretation of the theme to include change, innovation and inventions across all areas of science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM). Activities could help young people to think and talk about some of the changes which have happened in the past, how things might change in the future, or enable them to come up with their own ideas and solutions to problems. We are also keen for there to be a strong link to people who work in STEM related jobs and the skills they use. Some of the topic areas we are hoping to cover include:
• New ideas, inventions and products
• Change and innovations in health, food supply, farming and conservation
• Change and innovation in structures, transportation and architecture
• Change and innovation in materials and product design
• Change and innovation in creative services, for example ways of working, school, communications, sports and leisure, entertainment, new technologies
• Future STEM careers or subjects
We are particularly keen to include cross curricular content from non-traditional science organisations and are interested in finding more activities which can be completed at home, with limited resources and whilst following social distancing measures.
We expect the 2021 packs to take a similar format to 2020. You can download the packs from this year and previous years here: www.britishscienceweek.org/plan-your-activities/activity-packs/
There are limited spaces in each pack and we want to ensure a balance of content across subject areas, so please get in touch by Wednesday 5 August at the latest to reserve a slot or express an interest – if possible please provide details of the activity you would like to include, as this may have an impact should we have a lot of interest.
We will need all final content by Monday 7 September. The pack will be produced and released in early January 2021.
