Hi Amy,
We have recently signed up with Volunteer Makers and one of the challenges is aimed at micro volunteers. Essentially volunteers doing things for you but in their homes, etc. at times that suit them. We realised that we had micro-volunteers but had never considered them as volunteers. They did things like transcribing oral histories, deliver flyers, photograph events we attended, etc. More recently an education volunteer has written up some reminiscence notes.
So yes, up to a point we do have remote volunteers, and hopefully will have more in the future. I believe Tyne and Wear Museum use VolunteerMakers and must have remote volunteers.
Regards,
David Birks

Subject: Remote Volunteering
Dear All,
My colleague Pippa Smith and I are in the process of pulling together a proposal based on our Snapping the Stiletto project here in Essex and are looking for collaborators.
We've worked extensively with "remote volunteers", who were doing volunteering for us but away from the museums, frequently in their own home and at times to suit them. This has included research, transcribing, text writing etc. It has allowed us to engage with a different, typically younger, demographic of museum volunteers.
Are you/your colleagues also working with remote volunteers? Or do you know of an organisation who are?
If so, and if you are interested in being involved, please can you email me at [log in to unmask]
