I'm working on project to return salmon to the River Aire by building fish passes on a number of historic weirs. A fish pass is a piece of fairly major civil engineering that creates a channel that fish can swim up and over weirs and in doing so they reconnect and improve the natural habitat of the river ecosystem. Around this we are planning to a wide range of community engagement activities that will celebrate and educate people about the natural and industrial heritage of our river.
Our trustees have aspirations to launch an education programme to show how STEM (Science, Engineering and Mathematics) can help improve our the ecology and preserve our natural environment. They want to work with secondary students. Would anyone be willing to share their experiences of developing workshops for secondary schools or examples of workshops they run, particularly if they have cross curricular elements?
The vast majority of my experience to date is with Primary Schools.
