medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
This is partially in the way of introduction, partially a means of determining that everything is functioning properly, and I have a question of resources.
In the way of introduction, I am a liturgical artist/designer/consultant here in Arkansas (a thriving center of activity for aboreal rodents). My academic
background includes a BA in Religion/History from St. Joseph Seminary (Covington, LA) and graduate work in Medieval Art History from the University of
Arkansas at Little Rock. My seminary days were spent as a monastic candidate for the Benedictines (Subiaco, AR) and probably my field of greatest interest
is. . . well, pretty much everything Medieval. I have taught Art History at the secondary school level in a private, college prep institution, and continue to be
engaged in a form of teaching in my current, liturgically oriented work.
So I'll likely ask a great many questions.
Which leads to a question, one which is no doubt rather mundane, but has its particular interest: I have seen some evidence that prior to the 11th C. and
the beginning of the Crusades, relations between Muslims, Jews, and Christians was - while sometimes rocky - far less contentious than after that period.
What are some reputable resources on this thesis for further reading, and what are some sources which suggest otherwise?
Many thanks and I look forward to learning from this group.
