Mohammad,and list
The most cogent research (protocol analysis) on teaching and learning in
design studios that I know of was undertaken in 1981 by a Consortium of East
Coast Schools of Architecture chaired by the Deans of Harvard and MIT and
copyrighted by its sponsor, the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, under the
titles: Architecture Education Study, Volume I: The Papers, and Volume II:
The Cases. Vol. I contains Appendix 2: Historical Studies of Architecture
Education in the United states. This is probably hard to find but you can
get a sense of the methodology and findings from Chapter 3 in Donald A.
Schon, 1982 The Reflective Practitioner, New York, Basic Books.
Also see G. Goldschmidt, 2002: "One on One": a pedagogic base for design
instruction in the studio, in the DRS Conference Proceedings Common Ground.
The American Collegiate Schools of Architecture (ACSA) published a
Pedagogical Catalog and A national survey of the concerns and interests of
architectural educators in their Journal of Architectural Education in 1974.
As I was responsible for these efforts I can send you off-list a scan of the
format for collecting teaching strategies used in the catalog as well as
some useful studio teaching methods. This may seem like old history but
studio teaching hasn't changed that much. The problems, information and
technology certainly have.
Have you looked at http://www.idesignthinking.com

Chuck
