Dear All,
I posted a request to the list a few weeks ago about advice on accessible
signage guidelines, particularly with reference to visitors with
disabilities.
I had a fantastic response to the question with many suggestions on
guidance documents. I have now inwardly digested all the advice and
suggested documents and have collated the GEM responses (see
attached).
I have also attached all the guidelines that were available as emailable
documents along with the final document that I produced for our designers.
This is just an internal document rather than something which is being
formally published. I am currently using it in consultation with our
access panels, so I thought it might be useful for other people to see. I
am using it in conjunction with the 'Sign Design Guide: a guide to
inclusive signage' by Peter Barker and June Fraser, published by JMU and
the Sign Design Society (£20 - ISBN 185878 412 3) which gives a more
detailed account of issues for visually impaired people.
I hope this information is of use.
Best wishes,
Heather Hollins,
The Holocaust Centre.
