WANTED! Experienced Reminiscence/Oral History Workshop Leader for the
National Trust's Untold Story project at Morden Hall Park, London,
Autumn 2004

'The Untold Story'
The Untold Story is a new initiative funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund
to pilot ways of using the performing and creative arts to involve new
community groups with the work of The National Trust. The project will
enable local community groups to discover stories about Trust places
that are meaningful to them. By working with a team of arts & drama
specialists as well as National Trust property staff each project will
culminate in a performance, reflecting the relationship between the
participants and the site.

Morden Hall Park
Morden Hall Park is mainly associated with the Hatfeild family. The
last Hatfeild, Gilliat Edward died in 1941 and although a bachelor was
well known for his philanthropic work with local people especially
children. Each year he held parties within the park and each school
within the area had an afternoon outing. Many local people still live
in the area that attended these parties and have very warm memories of
this time. The National Trust staff regularly encounter people within
the park, at events or on visits to groups who have memories of the park
and its owner and who want to tell us all about it. So far all of these
have been given orally and none are recorded. There are letters and
other pieces of information gathered previously but many have been lost.
Many of the people involved are now elderly and these memories could
easily be lost forever if not caught.

The Project
The National Trust is looking for an experienced reminiscence workshop
leader to run a series of reminiscence workshops for established groups,
as well drop-in sessions for local residents, over a period of ten weeks
during Autumn. The aim of the workshops would be to 'collect' the
memories of local people to be documented so that we can share with
future visitors just how much this property means to local people. The
workshops will also enable participants to meet other people and share
memories and experiences. With the help of a writer and drama director,
some of these reminiscences will be interpreted in a public performance
planned for Spring 2005

The successful candidate would have proven previous experience of
delivering oral history workshops and recording reminiscences.
Experience of community drama and project management would be desirable.

If you are interested please submit an introductory letter, CV and
example of a project that you have done to: Lisa Green, Education and
Community Officer, Morden Hall Park, Morden Hall Road, Morden SM4 5JD.

Co-ordinator on 020 8986 0242 ( or email:
