Sweat Tests - Sweat Chloride
Choice of new instrumentation dilemma.
Given that the 'Guidelines' are currently advocating the use of
Chloride measurement, while concurrently seeking a wider
evidence base on Sweat Conductivity, there is a dilemma for
laboratories using old, or poorly performing, Sweat Chloride
systems. Looking at the Penalty Box Plots for Chloride [on the
report for Distribution 24 of the UK NEQAS Sweat Testing
Surveys], there are many laboratories in this position.
Does a laboratory buy in a new Sweat Chloride system or does it
go for a total Conductivity 'package' including collection system?
The latter may well gain 'professional' acceptance, if not
immediately, then during (and possibly for the majority of) its
working life! What would you do?
Comments on this dilemma, and also on my 'Personal View' on the
Interpretation page (below the pie charts on the report), would be
most welcome.
Many thanks for the anticipated feedback
