To all and whoever, it is an interesting dichotomy doing outreach is to provide "prove" to the opinion expressed to me that ... museums do not need buildings (and to continue the quote ...Objects!) Having said that....
We provide two forms of outreach programme one in partnership with schools library service where the library bus is suitably stocked with research opportunities, whilst the museums service provide original and replica artefacts relevant to the project. Subjects we have covered, Victorian washday / Victorian toys . £195.00 per half day and this was with the museums service providing staff free. The majority of the costs were in the actual bus and staffing of same. A successful pilot of one week would have lead to a one week repeat recently, but staff changes have delayed this till academic year 2005 / 6. it was popular and appreciated.
The second method is myself and a front of house attending school direct from the museum. Sessions (about two hours of exploring, drawing, playing,) cost £30.00 for two hours and £20 per hour after that and 40pence a mile travel. Subjects: Victorian washday / Victorian toys / Victorian life / imperial measurements / . Booking come in on an adhoc base, mostly repeats. The schools are very rural but not small enough to close completely for a day out so a trip to a museum has costs of entry if applicable, costs of travel, (and we have all heard of stories about those costs) and costs of supply.
