CEA@Islington
Education Library Service
Artefacts Librarian (maternity leave to January 2004)
Salary: £24,129 - 25,533 including London weighting (pro rata)
3 days per week
We are looking for an Artefacts Librarian to work as part of a team delivering
the Education Library Service's handling collection of artefacts and costumes to
schools and subscribers in Islington and neighbouring boroughs. The post is a
temporary position to cover maternity leave, and is part of a job-share.
It was recently advertised but the person appointed has now obtained a
full time position in a museum education service.
This post will have overall responsibility for the Artefacts section,
which is the largest loans collection of its kind in London. The person
we are looking for could come from a variety of backgrounds in either
museum education, teaching or librarianship, but the key quality that we
are looking for is an understanding of the potential of artefacts to
enrich and motivate children and young people. The job will require you
to be flexible in your work, able to fit into a small team, work under
pressure and above all to be enthusiastic and committed to promoting the
service.
The service is about to launch its NOF funded website -
www.objectlessons.org.
Potential applicants are encouraged to visit the service. Please contact
Julia Basnett or Sarah Gill on 020 7527 5524.
Closing date for applications is 12 noon on 24 April 2003, and interviews
will be held on 1 May 2003.
