Dear All
A couple of months ago I asked everyone whether they knew of research on
families and interpretation and also what people's experience of literacy in
museums was. Many thanks for all replies received.
Both of these subjects are covered in reports now available as pdfs on the
SWMLAC website (www.swmlac.org.uk). Also on the site are reports covering
teachers and ICT, local history, Citizenship, working with the Foundation
Stage, working with ASTs and teachers and museum visits. These reports are
the sum knowledge of the consultation myself and colleagues (Nicky Boyd and
John Graham) have been carrying out on behalf of the South West Hub to
inform the planning of their EPDP (Educational Programme Delivery Plan). The
themes of the consultation were chosen to have maximum transferability and
the reports written as stand alone pieces so that they might be of use to
the widest range of colleagues. The idea of these reports was to make them
as useful as possible to colleagues outside the Hub, so please feel free to
not only download them but to tell other interested colleagues.
As you are probably aware we have only been consulting since August. With
time and money limited some of the reports are based on small qualitative
studies. None aim to be comprehensive. I do hope however that they will
prove useful. Other Hubs have been carrying out similar consultation and
stacking these reports up with those from other regions will certainly
provide a larger statistical sample.
The other consequence of time limitations is that we have chosen to schedule
some research for 2004. In particular we aim to look at Special Needs and at
how the Arts are taught in school. As further reports become available they
will be posted to the SWMLAC website.
Happy New Year to all.
Best
Jo
