Hello Stephanie
I saw your email on the GEM list and thought it might be useful to tell you
about information available on our web site. Here at Reading we evaluated
our loans service through a DfES funded project two years ago. The results
can be found (including all raw data from the teachers and pupils consulted)
in our 'Hands-on Learning' section under 'Learning & Loans' - see
www.readingmuseum.org.uk . I would be very interested in hearing about the
results of your evaluation project if at all possible. If you would like
further information about our service, please feel free to contact me at any
time.
Best wishes, Gail

Subject: Re: Loans Boxes
Dear Maggie,
The loans boxes at the National Coal Mining Museum for England contain
laminated notes. These include a contents list, guidelines for handling
objects and object information sheets including pictures. Also included are
object investigation sheets which encourage students to look closely,
explore and record their object, an evaluation questionnaire for teachers
using the resource, and a simple quiz.
Other than objects, our loans boxes can contain copies of photographs,
larger images for display, details of period games, craft activities and
copies of original source material.
I am hoping to evaluate the loans service to schools, so would be really
grateful if you could advise me on how you have managed your teacher
consultations. I would also be interested to know if you think our loans
boxes are missing anything that teachers need to support the resource.
Thanks,
Stephanie Hawke
