Although I have no idea of the source of this information, the programme
presenters themselves, and commentators in the media, are saying that an
extremely high proportion (I've heard 90% mentioned) of those voting in the
'Pop Idol' phone-ins throughout the competition have been female. It would
seem very likely that the sort of people who voluntarily participate in
this particular phone-in would have a strong bias towards members of the
opposite sex/gender.
