Re: Standards
Helen's right - pdfs depend on a plug in - it was with reluctance that I put it
at the end of my list!
Acrobat, however, seems so pervasive that we (at York College) install it by
default along with Real Player.
I might construe that for some practical purposes conversion to pdf seems to be
a lowest common denominator.
Saving from wordprocessors straight to html hasn't yet reached users
consciousness.
Personally, I'm all for rendering everything without plugins.
Is Java a plugin. I see that the Redmond Giant has dropped it from IE6.
Further confusion! So we will have to more deliberately make it available to
support existing work.
Try www.netit.com for one Java based approach to making .docs, and other file
types, more accessible.
