Persuading the local school improvement team that a visit to your Museum is a great cross-curricular resource to raise standards in Literacy or Numeracy does seem to work. If they then recommend you to teachers at one of their training courses, their word carries a lot of weight.
Alternatively, ring the school and say " I'm ringing Mrs X about her class visit to my museum" as though it is already booked in and you are calling to make an amendment. Then when she picks up the call slightly confused, you can pitch your offer.

Knobble the county advisory teachers first? Get in with them and they'll do your marketing for you.
Or ask Claire to do it for you...
