Dear All
Just a quick reminder that places are still available on the above course.
Whilst we don't know what the primary curriculum will look like after 2012,
we do know that many schools are already taking more active control over
what and how they teach.
Free training day - Supporting creative curriculum approaches in primary
schools
Date: Weds 21st July 2010
Time: 10.00 to 16.00
Venue: Surrey History Centre, Woking
Confused about talk of a changing curriculum at Key Stage 1 and 2? Not sure
what an integrated curriculum, skills based learning or enquiry learning
could look like? Then this day could be the answer.
The revised primary curriculum, due to be taught in schools from September
2011, has been dropped. However for some time teaching and learning in
primaries has been changing. Schools have been moving towards shaping their
own curriculum, covering the statutory content in the National Curriculum
but not necessarily through the QCA schemes of work. The latest government
statement on future direction for the primary curriculum talks of a minimum
national entitlement based on subjects but with flexibility in how schools
organise teaching and learning.
Nic Garrick is a teacher and independent learning consultant working with
schools developing more creative approaches. With experience of classroom
teaching, school management and working with museums, Nic provides insight
into where primary education is going and what implications that could have
for how museums support Key Stage 1 and 2 learning.
Trainers:
Nicholas Garrick (Lighting Up Learning)
Ashmolean Museum Take One Picture team
Rochester Guildhall Museum
Facilitated by Jo Graham, Learning Unlimited
Learning outcomes:
By the end of the day participants will:
€ understand more about cross-curricular, integrated and
skills-based curriculum approaches
€ be aware of ways in which primary schools have begun designing

their museum
€ understand more about enquiry based learning in primary schools
