Dear colleagues
In the Nordic countries, most of us adhered to the assay recommendations of
the Scandinavian committee on Enzymes (SCE) for ALP, ALT, Amylase, AST, CK,
gGT and LDH. With the introduction of IFCC recommended methods for enzymes,
we have been exchanging the SCE methods with IFCC methods for ALT, AST, CK
and gGT. As for ALP and amylase, many of us are currently using IFCC
methods, and factorizing attempting to achieve SCE levels.
With the publication of an IFCC recommendation for amylase, all these
enzymes have IFCC recommended methods, and the time has now come to convert
to IFCC methods and reporting "IFCC values" even for the three last enzymes.
However, we have apparently come across problems regarding availability of
reagents for the IFCC method for LDH. I would like to know to what extent
the IFCC method (with appears to equivalent to the method recommended from
DGKC) is in use in countries like UK, Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium.
My guess is that the market demands pretty much determines to what extent
the major companies will introduce the new IFCC recommended methods.
If you have suggestions for other e-mail groups where this message would be
of interest, I would be most obliged.
