Fancy spending a few weeks in another museum, picking up new skills, or
going abroad for a conference or study tour? Read on...
The MGC is administering the Sharing Museum Skills Millennium Award
Scheme, funded by the Millennium Commission. The first deadline for
completed applications will be 10 November 1998, and thereafter
applications will be considered on a quarterly basis until May 2001.
The scheme aims to support a series of 6 week secondments in museums,
galleries and allied heritage institutions within the UK. Eligible
applicants will already be working within the sector, whether in a paid
or voluntary capacity. Awards will normally be in the region of
£2,000-£4,000. The secondments aim to allow individuals to fulfil
personal aspirations and at the same time enrich their communities by
sharing, learning and applying new skills. The secondments can relate
to any aspect of museum and gallery work from exhibition design to
community consultation, creation of websites to education projects. For
further information please contact Annie Hollobone on 0171 233 4200, fax

Don't forget that the MGC offers international travel grants for study
tours, placements or exchanges, as well as attendance at museum
conferences, training courses and specialist meetings. The grants cover
up to 50% of the costs of travel, conference fees, accommodation and
subsistence. Also, you can apply for a special award to cover up to
100% or £2,000 of the costs of a long-term study tour or secondment.
