Does anyone know of a concordance/ 'index verborum' to the 'opera omnia' of
Roger Bacon (which is still not, I believe, in a single collected edition)?
This great, though highly eccentric English Franciscan thinker, dreamed of
twelve burning-glasses (medieval lasers?) as a high-tech way of defeating
the Saracens. He also believed in converting, rather than killing them, if
the westerners would only take the trouble to master the necessary
languages.
I have not yet seen the latest (?) bibliography of works (1957-85) devoted
to him, announced by T.S. Maloney in his 'Roger Bacon, Compendium of the
Study of Theology' (Leiden, 1988), as being scheduled to appear in 'New
Scholasticism' for 1987.
