This is a complicated question. I am sure Richard Landes will be making a
far better reply soon than I can-- he knows more about medieval comptus
mss than anyone I know. In any case, disputes about the proper celebration
of feast days/fesival days, etc... were legion. Aside from the obvious
centrality of Easter, the Ember Days were of absolutely vital importance
(the 4 fast days ea. year-- they were also times of episcopal visitation
and most importantly of ordination!). The sources I've looked at show a
massive amount of confusion over their proper calculation. Perhaps Richard
will be kind enough to enlighten us all on the problems w/calculating such
dates during the MAs.
