medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Just a quick response to Laura, then. Nothing in our (rather
antiquated now) site depends on proprietary software. We use one
javascript to open the box for the comment on individual words as you
move the mouse pointer over them. Otherwise, the entire site is
constructed using plain (indeed raw) html.
There is one other point: you don't have to use it online. (I've
recently found my connection slowing very badly and streaming will
presumably make this worse). You can, in fact, download the entire
content from:
http://www.historicalresources.myzen.co.uk (links in the second column)
The autorun .exe file for Windows was compiled in the days of Win 3.1
- so you may have to use the compatibility layer in Win 10 (I don't
know as I'm not a Windows user).
The file for Apple is just a compressed file - there are instructions
how to open the unzipped content in your web browser (again, I'm not
an Apple user).
The content makes prolific use of frames. At the time, I was not
inclined to force a linked connection between the frames (more work).
It's best to stick to the frames.
I appreciate how antiquated the site must seem, especially the images
(mostly produced on my own scanner at home). I hope that it might
still have some use, not least because I image-mapped every word in
the scanned texts.
