Dear all,
please find below information about AHI's upcoming training workshop:
Inclusive Design – Accessible Interpretation
Venue: Claus Moser Room at the British Museum, Great Russell Street,
London WC1B 3DG
Date: 22nd June 2018
Whether you wish to reach out to new audiences or create interpretation
for specific audiences and communicate to them more effectively, our
Inclusive Interpretation workshop is just for you. The workshop is
intended to offer practical advice and information on inclusive design and
accessible interpretation using the British Museum’s Egyptian Sculpture
Gallery touch tour as a case study.
The interpretation at the British Museum’s Egyptian Sculpture Gallery was
awarded the winner of the Association for Heritage Interpretation (AHI)
Discover Heritage Awards in the Interpretation for a target audience
category October last year. The workshop is led by Cassie
Herschel–Shorland, an inclusive design consultant with experience of
exhibition and interpretation design; and Liz Porter whose role at the
British Museum is enhanced by her extensive practice as an access advisor
and inclusive storyteller.
Speakers:
Cassie Herschel – Shorland, Inclusive Exhibition Design Consultant
Stuart Frost, Head of Interpretation & Volunteers, British Museum
Liz Porter, Access and Equality Manager, British Museum
John Wilson, Art Historian and British Sign Language Lecturer and Guide
Aim
Our inclusive design workshop aims to engage heritage interpretation
professionals; to help them plan for and deliver an accessible and
engaging and interpretive journey experience.
Who is it for?
The workshop is intended for anyone working in the field of heritage
interpretation; whether you are a planner, a designer, an interpretation
officer or a consultant; who wants to explore new approaches, engage new
audiences and develop creative yet also realistic, practical and
sustainable solutions to access for people to engage with and enjoy our
natural and cultural heritage.
