Hi Emma
Not quite in the Georgian bracket but illuminating none the less, I attach a press report of the epic dinner thrown at Draper's Hall, Coventry, on the occasion of the wedding of Queen Victoria to Prince Albert in 1840. As you can see, numerous toasts are proposed and responded to, each occasioning a drink. A 'bumper toast' indicates that the glass would have been drained entirely, and not merely sipped...
I actually have lost count of the number of toasts, but I think there are almost twenty proposed, drunk and acknowledged, and a large quantity of songs sung. There's not much detail about the food, but I like the fact that Mr & Mrs Carter (the victualler and his wife, of the King's Head Inn) get a toast of their own.
This forms part of the archive research I did a few years back for a possible redevelopment bid for the Hall, a real gem in the heart of Coventry.

Subject: Royal Christmas Traditions of the past
Hi All,
Sorry to mention the C word before Halloween but I am putting together a Christmas tour here at Cumberland Lodge, which was a former Royal residence, and am coming a bit stuck when it comes to pre Victorian traditions!
It is well known that King George IV threw wild parties here and I was wondering if anyone knew about Georgian Christmases, what they did, what they ate, entertainment etc.
The house dates back to 1652 so there are lots of people that have lived and stayed here, the Duke and Duchess of Marlborough lived here in the early 1700's perhaps anyone knows a bit about how they spent their Christmases?
If any historians or anyone that works in the Royal residences can point me in the right direction I would be very grateful! Happy to collate any information for anyone that may also be interested in this topics.
Thanks in advance!
Emma
