Hi Philippo,
Get a life. It is so simple. And you are not alone.
The problem is that everybody thinks they are the only design community in the World. And they are the Designers with capital D. Well, they might acknowledge a few other communities as well, but that is it.
For examples, (industrial) designers, (graphic) designers, (interior) designers, and several other community address themselves as designers, using only the word designer. Gradually, they take an ownership of the word and start getting annoyed when another community is using it. For example, (interior) designers see themselves as the designers and the architects are just architects (not designers?). And so on.
An architect or engineer is an umbrella category. Some architects work as designers; others as code inspectors and project inspectors; still others work in capital planning and investment banking; and so on. Let's call these "positions." The skills and scope of tasks are considerably different.
Engineers can be designers/design engineers, operations managers, code inspectors, etc...
An architect and an engineers are designers as long as they have a design job position or are licensed to undertake design work. However, they, as well as society at large, refer to themselves as architects and engineers. This confuses some other design communities who start believing they are the only designers in the World. It is also an indicator for professional narrowmindedness, self-centeredness, etc. I am quite unhappy with this.
Best wishes,
Lubo

I sent their general email address a note indicating how sick & tired I am that engineers are not included as "designers" (this with respect to their "design awards"). The response I got was 3 words long: "Get a life!" The email was unsigned, but an address in NSW and a phone number were included.
