Hi Carl
When I worked at Leicestershire Museums Schools Service, we had custom made boxes in plywood with rails inside to slide in a Perspex case or a specimen on a stand. When taken out, the specimen slid into similar rails on the top of the box while the lid (which slid into slots down the sides) acted as a lock to prevent the specimen sliding off. This was effected by a tab in the design of the lid - an ingenious solution designed by Peter Stoddard, Chief Technician in the Schools Service. These boxes had wheels on the base for V large items.
If a sketch would help, I could draw one for you. (email below)
Best wishes,
Jim

Subject: [GEM] Loan Box for heavy objects
Hello all,
We have recently secured some funding to create loan boxes for our museum. Being from the Royal Armouries museum I would like to put armour within some of boxes but this makes them heavy. Does anyone know of any good boxes I could use which have wheels/ are easy to transport yet still look after the artefacts? Thank you in advance.
Kind regards
Carl
