Well for my part, and on this new topic; I think that the list was targeted
toward the debate about whether or not there should be ph.d. programs in
design, and if there should be, what should they be like, content-wise and
professionally. Granted I joined the list years ago, but it has devolved
and evolved in many ways since then. I don't contribute often, but when I
do, I tend to contribute on issues related to STS, actor-network theory,
professions, process-relational ontology, and related matters, mostly
because that is my training and background. I think there is room for
debate about the current and future nature of the list, but in the end the
style of debate is going to be a hard one to change, as I tend to think
that while some people spend some time working on their debate and issues
here, it is clear that not everyone is as invested in the list, or the
lists topics as others. The matter of investment in the
forms/ethos/arguments of the list and its topics is what seems to limit the
construction of relationships and portrayals of relationships to the list.
Having witnessed the comings and goings of many constructions on the list,
this list does seem to be one of the less 'flame', 'troll', or otherwise
'ill-willed' lists, so I'm not really that worried about its future.
