The National Portrait Gallery is seeking to appoint a Project Historian to research, source, write and edit additional information on the First World War drawn from museum collections and other sources to act as contextual material on the National Memory- Local Stories micro site:
www.npg.org.uk/nationalmemory.
The work of the Project Historian is to be undertaken June 2014 – August 2014.
National Memory – Local Stories is a creative participation project, funded by the Paul Hamlyn Foundation, and led by the National Portrait Gallery, London, in partnership with Media 19 and five national and local area museums across the UK: National Museums Northern Ireland, National Museums Scotland, Amgueddfa Cymru - National Museum Wales, The Rifles Berkshire and Wiltshire Museum and Redbridge Museum, London. This project explores how the discovery of locally relevant objects from museum collections, via creative digital media production workshops, can engage young people and artists in responding to significant moments in the history of the First World War.
The Project Historian will work within the framework of the wider project team to explore how this digital content can be developed to explore local stories associated with the First World War.
