Hello all,
The NHM are currently looking at the future of our on-site digital technology and we'd really appreciate any insights or thoughts the MCG may have.
Please see summary below:
Thanks in advance!

In-gallery technology evaluation
The NHM is looking to collaborate with other museums and/or specialist consultants to review the current and expected future trends in the field of in-gallery interactive technologies. We need to understand what technologies other institutions are using and developing globally to meet similar needs. The aim is to use the findings from these efforts to inform the roadmap for in-gallery technology investment whilst supporting opportunities to seek partnerships with technology providers. We would like to know if you are interested in collaborating on these efforts and/ or have any suggestions of consultants who may be well placed to work with us on this.
Where we are
To date the NHM has adopted a gallery-by-gallery, project-by-project approach to choosing technology solutions. The outcome of this approach often produces a highly customised solution using the most appropriate technology available at the time. In-gallery technology is often only updated when a physical gallery is refreshed, the challenge being that the lifespan of the technology is usually far shorter than that of the exhibit and needs to be refreshed periodically. Even using the same content on new technology provides its own challenge. This approach has led to a legacy of disparate systems using many different technologies, creating complexities in both the support and future development and integration of in-gallery systems.
Where we want to be
The NHM would like to standardise the hardware and software platform we use for circa 80% of our in-gallery technology; essentially using an enterprise approach to rolling out and maintaining the majority of our systems. Ideally we would have a partnership with a technology provider to ensure we have a secured level of support for our chosen technologies in the longer term.
