Dear All,
As you may know, the 'Museum Metamorphosis' conference organised by PhD students in the School of Museum Studies at the University of Leicester is fast approaching and will take place on 5-6 November, with pre-conference activity at New Walk Museum and Gallery on the afternoon of 4 November. The conference aims to address change in museums, exploring topics ranging from community dialogue and participation, to art and organisational change, to historical shifts in museum practice, to grappling with what it means to work within an ever-changing environment.
We are delighted that Sharon Heal, Editor of the Museums Journal will be giving her keynote address entitled 'Curators have only interpreted the world: the point is to change it', and Matthew Constantine, Collections, Learning and Interpretation Manager for Leicester Arts & Museums Service, with whom we are working to develop the conference, will be giving his keynote address about current developments in Leicester including a large ACE-funded project to redevelop the German Expressionists Gallery.
We are thrilled that our own Head of School, Dr Suzanne Macleod and Professor Richard Sandell will also be involved and contributing throughout the event and we are very grateful to the AHRC for their support through the Collaborative Skills programme.
We have a packed schedule with over 20 papers from all around the world, and speakers ranging from esteemed museum professionals such as GEM's very own Nick Winterbotham who will be leading a workshop, to museum directors, freelance professionals, PhD students and researchers.
To book your place, please go to the website where you will find more information and a booking form: https://www2.le.ac.uk/departments/museumstudies/museum-metamorphosis
Prices remain a bargain at just £60 for students and £70 for professionals for the full 2.5 days.
We very much look forward to welcoming you in Leicester in November (and for anyone arriving at the weekend, you will also catch the wonderful Diwali Day celebrations, one of the biggest outside India!)
With best wishes,
Alex
