a friend recently asked me to recommend schools with good film studies programs that his son might apply to . . . i feel as if i should be able to provide lots of good suggestions, but in fact i can't . . . i know of places with strong production programs, but he wants to do cinema studies as a strictly liberal arts/academic discipline -- and i should add that he's looking for a school in the US or canada
so far as i know the kid is a good student, perhaps not ivy league/stanford/chicago level but not far beneath that . . . i'd be grateful for any recommendations, though i think he'd prefer a place that doesn't have a production program as well because of the inter-program tensions that are too common in such places
thanks
mike
