Film philosophers,
For a collection I am editing, Planet of the Apes and Philosophy (Open
Court), I am seeking a philosopher to write a chapter on the issues
raised by performance capture technology in the creation of the
character Caesar in Rise of the Planet of the Apes. While Andy Serkis
ultimately was not nominated for an Oscar, in discussions leading up
to the announcement of the Oscar nominees, he was in the running for
best actor, and one of the issues raised was where to draw the line
between acting and animation when this technology is used in film
production. If anyone is interested in writing on this or related
issues with respect to the Planet of the Apes franchise, please reply
to me off-list and I can send you details about the collection. The
deadline for abstracts has passed, but I still do want to find a
philosopher, perhaps an action theorist or someone who works in
aesthetics, to write a chapter on this. I would still consider
proposals on other philosophical topics related to Planet of the Apes
if they are not already taken.
Thanks,
