Freelance Museum Comes to School Development Coordinator
Outline
The Manchester Museum’s Primary Outreach Service visits schools across Greater Manchester and brings the Museum into your community; providing a unique experience for primary school children. Each interactive outreach session brings topics to life by giving pupils the opportunity to see and touch real Museum objects.
The Manchester Museum is redeveloping its primary outreach offer and we are looking for an experienced, imaginative educator, familiar with the national curriculum (especially KS2) to work with us to review the museums existing provision and resources. We are seeking to redevelop and pilot a new interactive outreach workshop based on the museums collection around Ancient Egypt.
This freelance contract is for £2000 based on 12 days work and includes all expenses. It will run from September to December 2011. The project incorporates three distinct elements;
The review and development of Museum comes to School resources
Trial/pilot and evaluation session with schools
Review charging structure, branding and publicity

Role
The role is to review the Museums existing offer, resources and collections and to redevelop the Ancient Egypt session. You will work closely with the curator of community exhibitions, the primary learning team, conservators, freelance staff and volunteers.
Working with the museum team you will develop an evaluation framework and review pre and post visit resources and assist in the production of educational support material.
Work with Curator of Community Exhibitions and the Museum’s marketing team to review branding of the Museum Comes to School and structure with a view to developing a sustainable business model.
