We run a session here in Canterbury and have tried a couple of ways. After a short talk about other kinds of mummies like ice mummies and bog mummies w normally we get a volunteer from the group to be Pharoah.
They then act out a palace coup or murder and the pharaoh dies. They then act out the process pretending of course to pull out organs etc.
We have also done the same useing a life size dummy with a head painted to look like an Egyptian with a hole in the nose and a body cavity-this has worked really well as its more hands on.
To illustrate the wrapping process we have a competition in which groups wrap up soft toys in bandages adding a mask and amulets.
Hope this helps
Phil

Subject: Mummification session ideas!
Dear all at this rainy start of the week!
At our museum we run an Egyptian session, with one topic in the session being mummification. We use Barbie dolls which inside place foam organs and wool in the head (by pushing it up the nose) , which the children use tweezers to pull out. We had a teacher who thought there was a better way around this, and to portray mummification.
Mummification is a sensitive area, and trying to ensure to not upset the children making the exercise too life like is a significant issue.
We had a thought about using life size dummies to place the organs with, or buy a boiler suit, sew on specific pockets to place the organs in and ask their school teacher to wear it for an activity. What are your thought on these ideas?
If you run a Egyptian session covering mummification, or have any ideas you could share , that would be much appreciated!
Best wishes,
Lucy
