Don't forget that in many locations where OGTT performed [often unnecessarily] there won't be ready access to scales [also, would be need to QA scales as it's for dosing??]

Lucozade not really an option as volume required far exceeds 300mL as per WHO protocol

Oops,

Sorry that's 75g in 300mL.

It is true that Polycal has less osmotic effect, but I would be more
concerned about absorption effects of using this than a little added
CO2. Surely there is an added enzymatic breakdown step (even though it
may be a quick one) which is not present in the standard Glucose
tolerance test.

Greg

I trust it isn't 75g/L as a litre is about 4 times the recommended
volume.

I'm not sure carbonation is part of the standard GTT protocol either -
might it affect absorption.

Many people in the UK use Polycal because it has less osmotic effect and
thus less "post excess 4X" effect

Weighing strikes me as the best suggestion so far.

Hi All,

Why don't you interest one of your biomedical suppliers or even a drink
company to make up a standard glucose drink for you.

Here in Australia we have at least two companies that do that for us and
sell them by the case at less than a dollar a bottle. The 75 g/L bottles
are flavoured to stop the sweetness from causing unwanted "reflux" and
loss of dose. Both doses are carbonated.

Its trouble free!

Regards

Greg
