'Talk for Writing' in partnership with the National Literacy Trust

Friday 22 October 2010

Discovery Museum
Blandford Square
Newcastle upon Tyne
NE1 4JA

This training session has been developed by the National Literacy Trust.
Gain ideas on how to offer a range of tools that will engage children and young people and support literacy development, using the wealth of archives and museum collections available. Explore the Talk for Writing approach and how it can be used to build the bridge of creative literacy between schools and museums.

Talk for Writing is a well known, creative approach to developing writing, popular among teachers and pupils alike. At its basis, the approach is the exploration through talk of the thinking and creative processes involved in being a writer. Children are encouraged to discuss and explore all stages of the writing process from generating and developing thoughts, ideas and opinions, through to shaping and crafting and finally communicating those ideas in written form. The strategies used to support this process are practical, engaging and multi-sensory in nature. This day will look at how this approach, used in many schools, can work in a museum or archive context.

This event is free but places are limited, so please book your place by calling the Hub Learning Team on (0191) 263 9860 or emailing [log in to unmask] .
