On behalf of Stevie Rice, Chair of the Board, Disability Arts Online
Disability Arts Online [www.disabilityartsonline.org.uk], the national
showcase for disability and deaf arts founded in 2002, is entering an
interesting new phase of development following the completion of a major
Arts Council England-funded web rebuild.
Formerly working virtually, the disabled and deaf-lead organisation is now
consolidating core activity into a physical office space, and building
confidence, coherence, culture and audiences through a series of major
commissions, online marketing activities, and social media interactions.
"We're keen to develop a strong and sustaining core to DAO," said Stevie
Rice, Chair of the DAO Board. "We've got the foundations of a truly
inclusive, accessible web space to show disabled and deaf artists, writers
and performers. Next we need to build a uniquely specialised digital
publishing practice that can benefit the disability arts sector, and others
beyond."
Currently, the DAO board excels in first-hand experience of making art in
the disability and deaf arena. Further board members are very welcome
indeed; desirable experience might include one [or more] of the following
skills areas: digital publishing; journalism, editorial and content
production; education and learning, both school-level and lifelong learning;
financial and accounting experience.
"As well as building DAO's operational strengths," said Stevie Rice, "We'd
like to develop Board-level contributions to the growth of the project.
Board members may well have contacts that could help us with our fundraising
efforts, our values as a cultural body, our direction in terms of governance
and our movement towards a more permanent place in the national online
cultural space."
