Here's a reflection maybe of interest. I had the good fortune (as a non-designer) to work for two days with a bunch of exhibition, product designers etc. , in a workshop introducing politecnico di milano experts here in Melbourne. At the end of the two day period (I had the good fortune to work with an exhibition designer from Te Papa museum Wellington, who fixed some of my gaff cuts of foam and card) we came up with a 3D modular system for (1:5 scale). Now in fact the room was full of product designers and other discipline people - we all managed to address the brief and work through the problem space, sketching and modelling phases (even me) and come up with some object and spatial responses. Now, what's this got to do with the Q. Perhaps the answer to what we want from designers is the capacity to work together in situations like this and others.
