medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Doctissimi,
I recall two recent threads, one concerned with the manner in which people signed letters, the other, with the education of women. As I am in the process of cleaning out the Augean Stables that are my study, I came upon the January 2002 issue of _Speculum_. Included is an article by Alison Beach: "Voices from a Distant Land: Fragments of a Twelfth-Century Nuns' Letter Collection (pp. 34-54)," which may be of use to both inquiring minds. I might add that the first article in the issue is "_Sine rege, sine principe_: Peter the Venerable on Violence in Twelfth-Century Burgundy," something I shall read as soon as I finish the 54 books on my list.
Forgive me if I'm mentioning something already discussed. Since I know very little about either topic, I confess I scanned the responses very rapidly - including the one I contributed about writing letters.
