Just one further point - I've reread my last email, which unwittingly
implied that a properly erected maypole is a permanent structure. It should
be fine for a couple of weeks, but if you're intending leaving it up for
next year, you need to look into the problem of rot. That means tanalised
timber, soil analysis and expense. At that point, the best people to contact
would be a firm that does flagpoles, because they'll have all that sorted
out. But they probably will be talking concrete, with stainless steel
fittings.
