medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Hello, everyone! I have been wracking my brain for the source of a
particular quote in a diatribe against heresy, and cannot remember if it is
early (second or third century) or late (12th c. onwards), and most of all,
who said it. It goes something like: "We cannot contain our anger against
these people, who by their pernicious actions tear the seamless robe of
Christ." I'm thinking it's twelfth-century against either Waldensians or
Cathars, but have been unable to track it down. And the author may be
himself quoting earlier writers. I think the "seamless robe" motif shows up
fairly early. Can anyone help? Many thanks in advance! -- Mary Suydam --
