but faux pas is indeed written in two words according to the OED.

Well, George, since you seem to be in the mood for correction, I'll add that
"faux pas" should not be hyphenated. However, I'm offering this
pronunciamento (sp?) wiithout a shred of evidence or knowledge of UK customs
and spellings. I just speak French. And I take correction well. Most of the
time...
