news to me, but who am i to doubt Authority?

a common enough error.
do a search on "école(s) de Chartes" and you'll come across quite a few hits
referring to Chartres.
> According to the Bautz _Biographisch-Bibliographisches Kirchenlexikon_
(BBKL), s.v. "Fulbert, Bischof von Chartres", F. was born either in Italy or
in France and probably in Aquitania or in the diocese of Laudun (Laon). See:

excellent source.
written by Bautz himself.

Italian birth:

i wonder what the evidence is, for either locale.

declaration that F. was born in Italy? Or was Fulbert Italian in some other
way (e.g., of Italian parentage)?
i don't recall whether or not Margot broaches the question in her Speculum
article and don't have it before me.
if she did look at it, i'd say that we could go with whatever opinion she
ended up with.
i'd follow her into the Ditch, anytime.
i haven't read Clerval on him, either, but assume that he would make a case
for F. being a native Chartrainer.

"In his new book, 'Worse Than Watergate,' John Dean, of Watergate fame, says,
'I've been watching all the elements fall into place for two possible
political catastrophes, one that will take the air out of the Bush-Cheney
balloon and the other, far more disquieting, that will take the air out of
democracy.'"
