David,
Thanks for taking the trouble to check this out for me. This reply, though sad from a users point of view, confirms our findings.
regards,
Arthur

>Hi All,
>I have been checking out the use of Kurzweil screen reader with Blackboard and we have found that it does not work with the remarkeable exception of the login page (ie where the userID and Password are entered).
>
>Kurzweil seems to work by extracting the text from a website and outputing the text in audio format. When activated to read Blackbaord pages the Kurzweil system reports that there is "no text to read" (with the exception noted above).
>Could someone offer an explanation of why this is so.
>
>I am guessing that this because Kurzweil sees Bb as a player (in the mould of Real Player/Windows Media Player) and cannot extract the text it needs (though why it is able to do that with the login page kind of undermines this assumption).
>
>We have to present an internal report on this screen reader and I would be grateful if you could give me any information you may have on this product and its limitations with Blackboard.

I passed your query on to our Adaptive Technology manager who has had a long-standing issue with Kurzweil. This is his reply:
>Hi David
>
>We have never resolved the problems with Kurzweil and Blackboard. This
>has caused me much angst and frustration. They just stopped replying to
>my questions after a while.
>
>Best if these people contact Kurzweil and start lobbying the 2
>companies to talk to each other.
