medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
SOunds rather like the story of St Alexius/Alessio (have I got that right?) If I recall, one can still see, in his church in Rome, part of the staircase of his parents' house (under which Alessio lived upon returning from Constantinople or some such eastern city...
My question is: is this an Eastern topos, the unrecognized return of the saintly offspring? John C. and Alexius both seem to have those Byzantine connections.
