medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Does this Egyptian / Irish link fit in with the (regularly discredited, of
course) myth that the Stone of Scone (sp ?) - the "throne" on which the
Kings of Scotland were crowned and which was from the reign of Edward I
until very recently incorporated in the Coronation Chair in Westminster
Abbey - was the stone on which Jacob slept when he had his vision of the
Ladder to Heaven, and which was supposed to have come to Scotland via Egypt
and Ireland.?
Any geological examination of the present stone (which has now been returned
to Scotland) would be inconclusive since there is a body of opinion which
believes that the stone which Edward brought home as loot was a substitute
for the real thing.
