medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Hello Wendy. Indeed Cecil's map is quite accurate. The altar is right where
he indicated. It hasn't moved in many moons to judge from the floor
inscription. There was a Mass when I went there today so I couldn't finesse
my way right to the altar but is is very obviously there and quite easily
photographed even with a rudimentary camera. Louise Rice's book on altars
and altarpieces of St. Peters should have a great deal of information on it.
I believe it was published in 1999. I assume that she is still at Duke if
you wanted to contact her. all best, sharon
