medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
LOLLARD SOCIETY SPONSORED SESSIONS FOR LEEDS
Please note that the Deadline for submissions has been extended to September 27th
International Medieval Conference at Leeds. 14-17 July, 2003.
The conference theme for 2003 is "Power and Authority." The Lollard Society hopes to sponsor two sessions.
We are accepting abstracts on any topic related to any heresy and the conference's theme of "Power and Authority."
Some possible paper topics related to this theme are: interactions between heretics and royal or governmental authority;
interactions with the ecclesiastical hierarchy; manuscript/textual authority; heresy trials; the repressive exercise of power;
responses to authority in heretical writings, such as Thorpe's testimony; evading repressive authority;
appeals to Scriptural authority in heretical texts.
